Who we are
jpmono.com is an independent editorial and affiliate website that publishes guides and stories about Japanese regional crafts for an international audience. We link to third-party retailers — primarily the Amazon stores — so that readers can find the items we feature. We do not sell products directly, operate a shopping cart, or process any payments on this site. The site is operated from Japan.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form. When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, subject, and message so that we can read and reply to your inquiry.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Like most websites, our web server automatically records standard technical information — your IP address, browser type and version (user agent), the pages you request, the referring page, and the date and time. We use this to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site.
- Cookies. See the “Cookies and tracking” section below.
Cookies and tracking
- First-party cookies. For ordinary visitors reading articles, this site sets little or no cookies. Functional cookies are generally only used if you log in to the site (which is reserved for staff).
- Spam protection. We use Akismet (operated by Automattic) to help filter spam submitted through our contact form. To detect spam, Akismet may process the information submitted with the form, including your IP address and email address.
- Affiliate links. When you click a link to Amazon or another retailer, that third party may place its own cookies in order to attribute any resulting purchase to us. These cookies are set and controlled by the retailer and are governed by their privacy policy, not ours.
- Analytics & advertising. We do not currently run third-party advertising networks or web-analytics trackers (such as Google Analytics) on this site. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this policy first.
Affiliate links and disclosure
jpmono.com participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program for Amazon.com (United States) and Amazon.co.jp (Japan). When you buy something through one of our links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. For more detail, see our Affiliate Disclosure. Following an affiliate link takes you to a third-party website that is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
How we use your information
- To respond to questions and messages you send us.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Third-party services we rely on
- Amazon — affiliate program and product links.
- Automattic / Akismet — spam filtering for the contact form.
- Email delivery — our contact form replies are sent using a standard email (SMTP) service.
- Web hosting — our servers are located in Japan.
Data retention
- Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry and any reasonable follow-up.
- Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes, then rotated out.
International visitors
Our servers are located in Japan. If you visit from outside Japan — for example from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or the United States — your information is processed in Japan. Japan has been formally recognized by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of personal-data protection.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. For example, residents of the EEA/UK (under the GDPR) may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of the processing of their data, and may object to certain processing. California residents (under the CCPA/CPRA) have rights to know about and delete personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Because we do not sell personal information, there is nothing to opt out of in that respect. To make a request, please contact us through our Contact page.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
